Industry rallies behind porked-up Senate climate bill

Timothy P Carney
Washington Examiner -

I expect President Obama will frame this one, too, as a battle against the special interests, but maybe this time, the press won’t be fooled as badly. Politico reports:

While the green lobby is already firing up grass-roots support and running ads to advance the bill, getting the 60 Senate votes needed to pass it will require help from corporate lobbying shops with deep ties to conservative Democrats and Republicans.

The article, by Jeanne Cummings, nicely lays out the problems with the business-green coalition, and the danger things could once again fall apart.

[update: The House bill was pretty porked-up, too, as I wrote last year. It had special favors for: Rio Tinto, Nike, a power giant, GE, and the agri-chemical industry among others.

Iain Murray wrote on this topic for us last week: The Bootleggers are the Baptists’ last hope for passage of global warming bill]
